Lazio are on the cusp of securing a spot in the Europa League but still need to take one step forward in the final game of the season.

The Biancocelesti’s draw with Inter leaves them seventh in the Serie A table after 37 matches, sitting three points behind intercity rivals Roma. The result leaves them with no chance of returning to the Champions League, but there is still something to fight for.

With Serie A getting five spots in the Champions League, sixth and seventh in the league will qualify for the Europa League, with the eighth-place team progressing to the Conference League. Fiorentina currently sit six points behind, leaving Lazio with just one step left for a spot in Europe’s second-tier competition.

As highlighted by La Lazio Siamo Noi, Lazio can confirm their spot in the Europa League with a win or draw over Sassuolo in their final game of the season, leaving everything in their court. Even if they lose, they can still qualify for the tournament, but only if Fiorentina fail to beat both Cagliari and Atalanta.

Should the Biancocelesti lose to Sassuolo and the Viola win their remaining two matches, then Igor Tudor’s side will finish eighth in the table, leaving them in the Conference League.
